When we wanted hosting for our own sites it took an awful lot of research to find the right services at the right price. We're pretty picky. And we wanted hosting that can easily deal with the type of web sites we design, such as this one. Unfortunately, whilst basic hosting of a personal webpage is very cheap, the kind of commercial standard hosting we were looking for involves a whole raft of optional extras. Another criteria is that we didn't want to host via one of the major companies with poorly trained support agents who can only follow support scripts. We wanted professional specialists focused on customer service; the kind of company that those in the know use. And after a lot of hard work searching we found exactly what we wanted. After five years we have never had cause for complaint and every issue has been resolved promptly and courteously by a real person, a real contrast to some of the cowboys we have dealt with previously.
Option 1: We host our own sites, and those we have designed for others, plus we use our space for research and development. This type of web hosting is not for everyone. You need to be comfortable using FTP to transfer files to your site, installing web applications and configuring them, setting up your own email boxes, setting up your own DNS server settings, and so on. Perfect for IT professionals and the very keen amateur. If that is you then please use the Contact Us page and we will happily pass on the details of our primary hosts - there isn't really any value we can add for you.
Option 2: If what you are looking for is the kind of web hosting that professionals demand, but you can't or don't want to spend a couple of days setting it all up, learning from numerous mistakes as you go, then that is where we can help. We can set you up with a domain, professional email accounts, and a one page contact web for less than you might expect. We can go further and set you up with a skeleton content management website (one where you fill in all the words using your Internet connection), for a small additional premium. Hosting plus a contact web page and email for up to 10 users sharing 200Mb of web space, and a .co.uk domain name of your choice, costs £50 to set up and £120 per annum service charge, including domain name renewal as it becomes due. We are flexible and happy to quote for more email accounts, more web space, and different domain names, e.g. a .com. Prices exclude VAT.
It normally takes about seven days from receipt of cleared payment to be up and running. We will keep you fully informed along the way.
For a limited period, the base web hosting package above, including setup and 12 months subscription, is available for £99 plus VAT, the equivalent of at least 6 months free hosting. Domain Name Registration
If you want a domain name, and you are not buying Evrose inclusive services, you will need to register it.
As a domain name registrar, good service, comprehensive user tools, competitive prices. Recommended. If you want to buy web hosting from us and feel nervous about us registering a domain name for you and want to retain total control, you can register it direct with Fasthosts and authorise us via the user tools to set up the necessary technical settings. Be warned though, their web hosting and email services have attracted some negative reviews.
The opposite to Fasthosts - very poor support, dreadful user interface, uncompetitive when you tot up all the extras needed, and they make it as difficult as possible to transfer to another host. The more difficult a company makes it for us to take our business elsewhere, the more determined we are to take our business elsewhere. Fortunately you can transfer multiple domain names instantly for a tenner plus VAT flat fee by going direct to Nominet.
Nominet is the UK Registry for Internet domain names ending in .uk. Most people use the likes of Fasthosts to register and manage their domain names as it is significantly cheaper. But if you ever have anything complicated (like changing the ownership of a domain name) or need to bypass an uncooperative or useless Registrar, these are the guys to go to.
